New Mexicoâ?s 9-part manual describes (a) the purpose, mission, composition, and procedures of the Student Assistance Team (SAT); (b) the three-tiered model for addressing studentâ? individual needs; (c) successful SAT interventions and sample accommodations in seven major student areas; (d) other SAT responsibilities (e.g., retention, promotion); and (e) data collection and record-keeping.

These materials were piloted during the 2009 OSPI January Conference. Materials were developed to provide building-level implementation teams with a tool for action planning related to RTI implementation. Participating teams worked with trained facilitators to complete a needs assessment and then to develop an action plan. Sets of materials are available for (a) team members; (b) team leaders; and (c) facilitators.

The Center on Innovation & Improvement has developed these three courses: (a) Instructional Teaming; (b) Professional Development; (c) Instructional Alignment.  A course guide with activities, resources, and templates is included.  (Located at the Academic Development Institute in Lincoln, Illinois, the Center on Innovation & Improvement is a national content center that supports the regional Comprehensive Centers funded by the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Elementary and Secondary Education.)

These modules were developed to enable district teams to meet their increasing professional development needs in a flexible as-needed manner. While the modules will not provide all the information that you need to implement Response to Intervention effectively, they will provide an awareness of each of the key components and materials to help staff understand how Response to Intervention is consistent with many instructional and leadership initiatives: Personal Literacy Plans, Secondary Reform, Special Education Eligibility, and Professional Learning Communities.
