The June 2008 National Symposium on Early Childhood Science and Policy was designed to build leadership capacity in the States for developing and implementing science-based policies that enhance children’s learning, behavior, and health. This nonpartisan, educational event shared cutting-edge scientific knowledge and evidence-based conclusions drawn from extensive evaluations of early childhood programs, policies, and interventions. Topics of the videos are: (a) The Science of Child Development and the Future of Early Childhood Policy; (b) Lessons Learned from Public-Private Partnerships; (c) What Research Tells Us About Early Childhood Program Effectiveness; (d) The Impact of Early Diversity on Brain Development; (e) Delivering High-Value Services to Vulnerable Children; (f) Learning from State Experience: Executive and Legislative Perspectives; (g) Improving Quality in Early Childhood Programs -- plus four videos on highlights of the proceedings and interviews with presenters. Scripts and briefs are available with several videos. (Beyond extensive federal grant support for individual projects, a range of foundations, funding consortia, and individual donors have made significant investments in the work of Harvard’s Center on the Developing Child since its inception in 2006.)
